Award and trophy money

The prizes, within the scope of the International Mediafestival Villingen-Schwenningen get awarded, are made by the artist Frank Rawer. They are small sculptures with the name “Blue Genius”. The naming doesn´t come from the current tendency to use the mother-tongue stepfatherly, but rather it´s a festival with international involvement, and also can the meaning of “blue” not be expressed in german that short.

The blue, a contribution of the festival organisation, is the ground- and identification colour of the festival. Primarily knowable at the logo “the blue eye”, without you can´t geht away there. Blue is in this country the colour of spirituality, thoughtfulness (always indicated), the loyality (to the festival?) and the mysteries and secrets (mum´s the word!), as well as the firmament, the distance – the “medium of the truth”. The blue lily of the holy mother blooms as well as the botanic different “blue flowers” of the romantic.

The other side of the Blue is the blues. We expect, form a genius, above average growth highbrow abilities, thus also a critical awareness – and the one who has that premises needs essentially a ones melancholy!

The Genius as an aptitude, as a constructive spirit, was aboriginally – as in the perception “Genius loci” still recognizable – a “guardian-ghost” (replaced for the guardian angel in the Christianity). The “Blue Genius” is both, local gurardian-ghost (lat. also: host) and “Award” for the originality of the laureates. His smile is more friendly than melancholic , but (as expected form an artist) not without a tongue-in-cheek. His head shap (americ: “egg head”) shows intellectuality. Even without eyes “Blue Genius” is in the know. An accompanying “Dia” as an older but optical more concise media-representative brands the pize. His weight gets the plastic sculpture finally from the solid (granite-)pedestal on which it stands.
